As a mycologist, I was thrilled to explore this region with a group of experts, each with a unique perspective on the fascinating world of fungi. What makes this place so special is the incredible diversity of fungal life, which is often overlooked and undervalued. The Tarkine is a living, breathing ecosystem, and fungi are the architects of this rainforest, creating the conditions necessary for life to thrive. The workshop was a journey of discovery, where we learned about the vital role fungi play in environmental restoration and the interconnectedness of all life. We foraged for fungi, taking sporeprints and exploring the impact of language on our perception of these organisms. The experience was a revelation, and I was struck by the sense of wonder and awe that surrounded us. The Tarkine is a place of legends, and the fungi are the true heroes of this story. They are the foundation of the rainforest, and their importance cannot be overstated.
